How to Spray Paint your Agricultural Vehicles
Spray painting agricultural plant and machinery
Spray painting agricultural plant and machinery with aerosol spray paint requires proper preparation, the right products, and a methodical application to achieve a durable and professional finish. Here's a step-by-step guide
-
CLEANING
Clean the Surface
using a degreaser or industrial detergent.
Pressure wash large machinery if necessary.
Allow surfaces to dry thoroughly. -
RUST REMOVAL
Use a wire brush, abrasive pads, or a power tool (e.g., grinder) to eliminate rust.
For pitted or flaky areas, consider applying a rust converter before priming. -
SANDING
Lightly sand glossy or previously painted surfaces with 240–320 grit sandpaper to improve paint adhesion.
Wipe clean with a tack cloth or lint-free cloth dampened.
-
PRIMING
Use a primer formulated for metal (e.g., zinc phosphate or etch primer).
Apply 1–2 light coats of aerosol primer, holding the can 20–30 cm from the surface.
Allow full drying time between coats as per product instructions. -
SPRAY PAINTING
Shake the can for 2–3 minutes to fully mix the pigment.
Test spray on cardboard before applying to machinery.
Maintain a consistent distance of 20–30 cm from the surface.
Use a crosshatch pattern (horizontal then vertical) for even coverage.
Apply multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat to avoid drips. Allow each coat to dry 10–20 minutes (or as specified). -
(Optional) Lacquered Top Coat
For added durability, apply a clear lacquer spray after the colour coat has fully dried. This improves:
Gloss and finish
UV and corrosion resistance
