How to Spray Paint UPVC Windows and Doors Using Aerosols.

Transform old or discoloured UPVC windows and doors with a smooth, professional spray finish — no trade skills needed. In this guide, we’ll show you how to clean, prep and spray UPVC using aerosol paints for a long-lasting finish. At the end, you’ll find all the recommended products and safety essentials.

  • Step 1

Use a UPVC cleaner to remove dirt, grease, and surface contaminants.

☑️ Avoid soap residue as it can affect paint adhesion.

  • Step 2

Use a fine sanding pad (e.g., 800 grit) to key the surface. Wipe away dust with a clean microfibre cloth.

  • Step 3

Use masking tape, Masking Paper and plastic sheeting to protect glass, handles, and nearby brickwork or floors.

  • Step 4

If spraying over old, chalky or damaged UPVC, apply a plastic-compatible primer. Let it dry fully.

  • Step 5

Shake the aerosol for 2–3 minutes. Always test on a cardboard scrap first.

  • Step 6

Hold the can 15–20cm away and apply light, even coats. Start and stop off the surface to avoid drips.

  • Step 7

Allow 15–20 mins between coats. Apply 2–3 coats for full opacity.

  • Step 8

For extra protection or gloss, finish with a clear coat.

  • Step 9

Unwrap the high-quality results by carefully inspecting and removing all tape after completion. Your project will shine proudly.
