Composite Doors Project
Clean and prepare the door
Wash the composite door thoroughly with warm soapy water or a suitable degreaser to remove dirt, wax, and contaminants. Rinse well and allow it to dry completely. Remove door furniture where possible, or mask it carefully.
Sand and prime
Lightly abrade the surface using a fine abrasive pad or 320–400 grit sandpaper to create a key for the paint. Wipe away all dust with a lint-free cloth. Apply a plastic/composite adhesion promoter or primer suitable for composite surfaces and allow it to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Spray paint in thin, even coats
Hold the aerosol approximately 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) from the surface and apply smooth, overlapping passes. Build up the colour gradually with 2–3 light coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow the recommended flash-off and drying time between coats before applying the next layer.
