Spray painting a composite door with aerosol spray paint can give it a refreshed look if done properly. Here’s our step-by-step guide:

  • 🧼 1️⃣ Clean Thoroughly

    Remove dirt, grease & silicone Use a UPVC/GRP cleaner
    Wipe on, wipe off with clean cloths

  • 🪵 2️⃣ Key the Surface

    using Fine sanding pad or P800–P1000
    Scuff all panels, edges & profiles
    Don’t sand through – just dull the shine

  • 🎭 3️⃣ Mask & Protect

    Remove handles where possible
    Mask glass, seals & hardware neatly
    Good masking = sharp professional lines

  • 🧪 4️⃣ Adhesion Promoter (Recommended)

    Light, even coat
    Essential for GRP & composite doors
    Prevents peeling & flaking

  • 🎨 5️⃣ Spray Colour Coats

    Shake can 2–3 minutes
    15–20cm spray distance
    1 light mist coat → 2–3 medium coats
    10–15 mins between coats

  • ✨ 6️⃣ Optional Clear Coat

    Extra durability & finish control
    Apply within recoat window
    Ideal for high-traffic doors

  • ⏱️ 7️⃣ Cure Time

    Touch dry: 30–60 mins
    Light use: 24–48 hrs
    Full cure: 5–7 days
    🚫 Avoid washing or chemicals during cure

📦 How Many Cans Do I Need?

✔ Typically 1–2 x 400ml aerosols per side
✔ Order extra for deep panels or dark colour changes. ✔ You may want to consider spray filler if you have deep scratches.
